AIDS Memorial Quilt Project
J.C. Lewis Health Services of Union Mission, Inc.
Funding provided by City of Savannah

J.C. Lewis Health Services of Union Mission, Inc. is pleased to announce that sections of the internationally celebrated AIDS Memorial Quilt – the 54-ton, handmade tapestry that stands as a memorial to more than 91,000 individuals lost to AIDS – will be on view from April 16-19, 2009 at the Bull Street Branch of the Live Oak Public Library in Savannah.  Leading up to the exhibition, Public and Private Remembrance Quilt Workshops will be held, facilitated by SCAD Professor Sally Kroehnke. In addition to providing project participants with art-making and art-viewing opportunities, Union Mission also views the project as an opportunity to use the arts as a vehicle to promote community wellness. HIV prevention and local free testing site information will be offered at workshops and exhibition, utilizing Union Mission’s Health Promotion staff expertise and the outreach assistance of Savannah State’s “Get in the Know HIV/AIDS/Substance Abuse and Hepatitis Awareness Project” peer educator staff.
